Question:

What muscles to train to help me become a great Middle Hitter

I am 6'0 tall. I am trying out for volleyball in about 10 days, God knows I'm going to be a Middle Hitter/Blocker in the fall because of my height.

I was wondering which muscle groups are the most important for me to train. I would think my shoulders and arms...maybe my core too, but I don't know any good exercises to build these muscles. I know that I can't make much progress in 10 days, but I'm thinking about the long run.

Thanks so much :)

Peace and love

  1. you should work on ur arms (for hitting of course) but also your legs so you can jump higher.  for your legs work on ur calves (calf raises) and quadriceps.  your abs and back are important for jumping as well so work on them too (jump rope)

    hope this helps!

  2. strong Hips, are important for explosive movements and if your a middle then that is very important. You also right on core body work that is going to help out as well. Here is a website that should help. Good Luck

  3. If you know for sure that you're going to be a middle blocker, it's always good to work on your 'explosiveness'.  Middle blockers need very quick approaches when hitting the ball so along with your regular jumping exercises, adding some more calf exercises will help.

And if you're not going to be a middle blocker (because you never know with volleyball coaches and just because you're tall doesn't mean you're immediately great at blocking and you won't make a killer outside hitter instead),  working on your jumps,  shoulders and core will help any volleyball player playing any position.
