Also, would semi-formal dress be ok to request?

Also, would it be ok to ask people to help buy the liquor? i.e. On the invite, have a list that people could help buy? We're all 21 and friends.

  1. soft jazz or blues and yes they should be able to bring drinks

  2. don't supply a list- then everyone will end up buying the same stuff. Maybe ask everyone to bring the supplies to make a certain drink they would like to share with everyone- maybe put on there "Please bring all necessary liquor and supplies to make a special drink for everyone to share!" the wording on your invites will state the dress code also- so if you say Beach Bash! will stress the casual attire- and if you state Black and White Ball or Classy Cocktail Night they should know to dress up a bit. print out invites on pretty paper from the scrapbooking store and maybe tie a ribbon on the top to jazz it up a bit- invitation envelopes are cheap at Walmart. for music look into downloading some music or get a mixed CD of cocktail type music like jazz or classical (I'd suggest to only play this for a bit at the beginning of the party cuz it will get boring for 21 year olds!) make fancy looking appetizers served on silver platters (Dollar Tree dollar store has silver platters or check out your local dollar store) dollar store also has champagne, wine and martini glasses also in case you need to stock up before your party.

  3. sure.... maybe award a prize for the most unusual liqueur that's brought!  Have some blenders, ice & mixes, so you can make "frozen drinks"........     "Elevator" music is best, I suppose:)  Sinatra, Air Supply, the Carpenters...with some soft rock that appeals to the ages of the people coming

  4. I would play standards, throw in some Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Steve Tyrell, Michael Buble, Harry Connick Jr.  I think it's fine to ask people to help bring liquor, it's actually kind of fun, you can ask people to get creative and hopefully get to try some fun new drinks.
