What music should I check out from China/ Taiwan?

I am trying to pick up mandarin and thought songs lyrics may help me a little. I have noticed a lot of the popular music is sad love songs. Are there any artist that are more upbeat then that?

I'm not sure how to answer, but I'll suggest a few artists:

There is Jay Chou, who is extremely famous.  A lot of people like him, but a lot of people dislike all the same.  

Danson Tang is a Taiwanese actor that has taken into singing, but I don't think he's released many songs yet.  I still like his song "Ai Wo".

There are many songs that theme for dramas, such as "E Zuo Ju" by

Ariel Lin for the opening of "It Started with a Kiss".  

Rainie Yang is pretty famous, I think, and "Ai Mei" is a calming, soft song.

Wilbur Pan's "Bu De Bu Ai" used to be pretty popular, but has lost some attention since then, I think.

F.I.R. is well known, but I'm not sure of how famous they are.  

Fahrenheit is pretty famous; they are made up of four guys.

S.H.E. is famous too, and made up of 3 contest winners, the group entirely consisting of girls.

Wang Lee Hom is a great music artist. Originally from the U.S. (East coast?), he writes and sings his own songs. Very talented. Not all of his songs are love ballads. One of his new songs is called "Change Me", or Gai Bian Zhe Ji, and is rock-ish.

S.H.E. has collaborated with Fahrenheit (or Fei Lun Hai). One upbeat song by them is "Xin Wo", or directly translated - New Home. You can find the MV on youtube.
