  1. listen to all types of music, see which bands you like best and say you like those =]

  2. Anything written 10 or more years ago.

  3. first of all, i believe that saying that you are not interested in music is better than lying and saying that you like some artist or group just because other people liked them. that is the worst. if you dont know what is good or bad, you should face the fact that music just doesnt excite you. dont worry though, despite what people say, very few people actually know and enjoy music. it takes a genuine artistic personality. some people just dont think artistically. i would say that only 5 percent of the population really love music. but there is no way to describe how music effects the few so the rest believe they feel it too. i would say the good taste is always in the eye... or ear of the beholder. if you want to impress lynard skynard, dont tell them you like 50cent. they will say you have bad taste.

  4. Whatever YOU like to listen to. It doesn't matter if you don't know much but if you listen to your OWN taste of music it's good.

  5. The best way to have "good taste" in music is to sample a broad variety of genres and decades and see what you like.

I have sampled music from the 1920s to 2008 in genres ranging from jazz to rock to rap to country to R&B to bluegrass to heavy metal to punk to reggae and have found songs I like in all of them. (Which could be demonstrated by looking at my MP3 player). You're never too young to listen to "old" music (or too old to listen to new music).

In the end, music is subjective. I will say the list I have linked below has a LOT of great music on it but I don't like every single song even on that one. It's better to like a lot of music others say is "bad" passionately than it is to like "good" music half-heartedly (just to seem knowledgeable).
