What must I do to keep gas thief's from stealing my gas?

If i install a locking gas cap they will either cut the fuel lines or punch a hole in my gas tank, and thats costly to repair.

If I park my truck with an empty tank, how would they know its empty before they do damage to my truck?

I have motion sensor lights in my driveway, but they can un-s***w the light bulbs.

  1. If they're going to cut your line or punch your tank to get fuel, you really have no recourse.  No matter what you do, they can still access your fuel.  You either need to rent a garage somewhere or move.  I could recommend a fiberglass tank that isn't easy to puncture, but they'll still get your fuel line.

What are these people, freakin' ninjas?  How do they get to your motion lights without tripping the sensor?  Each light sensor should be covering the other light's fixture so nobody can get to either one.  If you're in that bad a crime area, you can't get away with just one light unit.

I guess you could build up a concrete, earth or steel pad under where you park your tuck so that they can't access the underside of the truck.  Make it so you have a couple of inches clearance and create a pointed zone to guide the tires around the edges.  That'll keep them from getting to your tank and line, then you can address the gas cap.  Me, I'd drill and mount a hasp with a padlock if my truck was older and I didn't care about the body that much.

  2. Sounds like youre pretty paranoid, so the best things I can think of are these: Get a car alarm that has a motion sensor on it. This way, whenever someone comes withing 1-5 feet from your car, it will beep at them. If you think they can get passed that, get a secondary battery, if you think thats still not enough, move to another area because if they are going to go through all that trouble to get your gas, they might as well just steal your car for it. If you want to make it more difficult still and go a little more extreme, weld a thick metal plate around your gas tank so you cant get to it. A locking cap is good but there are master keys for those things that are easy to get.

  3. try speaking to an electrician, there is a way to run a wire from the battery to the car to give them a h**l of a shock, also try wrapping barbed wire around the underside of the car that way when they reach up to cut the lines they get a hand full of pain and if that don't stop it sleep a few nights in the vehicle and bust their *** with some mace that has color dye.

  4. Worry more about your catalytic converter!

I can't think of a way to protect your fuel lines that would be less work than getting an old diesel and converting it to run used fryer oil.  At that point, not only is your fuel undesirable to thieves, your fuel is also free.

  5. Maybe you could park in the garage, or get a loud car alarm to deter them.

Has anyone actually tried to steal your gas?  I live in an area with a lot of crime and shady people, and don't have a garage to park in, but I put a locking gas cap on my car and I haven't had anyone try to do anything to it.

  6. Where do you live....never heard of anyone continually having this kind of problem....maybe you could get a dog and train him to spend the night in your truck and bark when someone gets near, hopefully waking you...or elevate your motion lights high enough so the bulbs can't be removed....or set up a motion sensor to turn on the lights and switch on a recording of a loud siren or something like that. Park your truck so the rear is facing the street, if there are street lights.

    GOOD LUCK WITH THIS ONE.

  7. If things are that bad where you live, I would move.
