It actually should apply to any international cricketer. However, if he does not have the will to win, he should not be playing. You cannot play at your best if your first objective is not to win.

There is a big difference between being a gentleman about playing and not having a desire to win. To win must be a goal, otherwise you do not perform.

Even if it is for example Scotland vs. India. Now clearly India will win that game and win it easily. However, if a player from Scotland thinks that he is not playing to win, he may as well sit in the crowed and have a beer.
