What nationalities Do require a tourist Visa in advance to make a visit to Nepal?

I would like to know the nationaities do require a prior tourist visa to Nepal,and who couldnt acquire the tourist visa on arrival.Also how many days the tourist visa is valid if one get it from the airports of Nepal,and does one need to have a return ticket wit his as condition to get the visa on arrival.

  1. You should double-check this, but I believe everyone has to buy a visa immediately after arriving at the airport in Kathmandu. You can buy 14-day or 30-day visas, and perhaps longer ones as well. A good idea is to have US dollars on hand before your flight so you can purchase the visa without having to change money. It's been a while since I was in the country but when I last visited there was no ATM or American Express office in the arrivals area.

    a. Entry:

    Tourist entry visa can be obtained for the following duration from Royal Nepalese Embassy or Consulate or other mission offices or at the following immigration offices in Nepal.

    Ø Immigration Office, Kakarvitta, Jhapa (Eastern Nepal)

    1. Visa fee for visitors who enter Nepal for the first time in a visa year (Jan-Dec):

    Single entry 60 days from the date of entry US$ 30 or equivalent convertible foreign currency

    2. Multiple entry facility can be obtained paying additional US$ 50 or equivalent convertible foreign currency. The facility will be valid for a

         visa year (Jan-Dec) if the visa period is valid.

    b. Tourist Visa Extension:

    A tourist visa can be extended up to 120 days from the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu and Pokhara Immigration Office on request. Thereafter an additional 30 days can be extended from Department of Immigration ensuring that tourist visa cannot be extended more than 150 days.

    Visa Extension Fee:

    Ø Tourist visa extension fee for 30 days:

        sUS$ 30 in equivalent Nepalese currency.

    Ø Tourist visa extension with multiple entry facility

        Multiple entry facility can be obtained paying additional US$ 50 or equivalent convertible foreign currency. The facility will be valid for a

        visa year (Jan-Dec) if the visa period is valid.

    Ø Late fee for not applying extension in time:-

           - US$2 in equivalent Nepalese currency per day for the first 30 days.

           - US$3 in equivalent Nepalese currency per day for the next 31 to 90 days.

           - US$5 in equivalent Nepalese currency per day for more than 90 days.

    Ø Gratis visa :-

          - Children below 10 yrs.

          - Dependants up to the age of 16 years, holding foreign passports of Nepalese parents or either of their parent being a Nepalese

            citizen.

          - Citizen of Nepali origin, after having obtained passport for the first time from a Nepal based foreign mission, until the period of his

            departure to a foreign country.

          - Citizens of member countries of South Asian association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and the People’s Republic of china.

          - Any foreigner, who has lived in Nepal up to fifteen (15) days continuously, re-entering Nepal during the same visa year.

          - Any foreigner, tourist entering into Nepal for three days or less than that.

    Some Important information to tourist: Don't or Do's

    Ø A tourist may stay in Nepal up to 150 days in a visa year (Jan-Dec).

    Ø A tourist must extend his/her visa before expiry of the visa validity period. A tourist who does not comply with these regulations may be

        liable of fine and other prosecution as provided in Immigration Act and Rules.

    Ø A Foreigner having obtained tourist visa shall not be allowed to work with or without receiving remuneration.

    A foreigner shall not be allowed to carry out any work other than that for which purpose s/he has obtained the visa.

    Important Note to all Visitors and Trekkers

    Here's a little legalese from the Nepalese ~ requesting your cooperation to observe the following guidelines during your stay in Nepal.

    Ø All foreign visitors are requested to be mindful of the date of expiry of the Nepalese visa and their passports to avoid future problems. As

        such, you are requested to apply for a visa extension, if you wish so, within the valid period of the Nepalese visa.

    Ø You are requested to get the arrival/departure stamp on your passport at the entry/exit points to avoid further complications.

    Ø Living in Nepal without passport or a valid visa is a punishable offense.

    Ø Deviation from the prescribed routes in the trekking permit will be treated as the violation of the law.

    Ø You are advised to be aware of brokers/cheaters or any counterfeit documents of visa/trekking permits to avoid legal complications. If

        you are not visiting/trekking through any authorized agency, do not use mediators for visa/trekking permits. You are requested to contact

        the Immigration Office directly.

    Ø Change of purpose of stay without permission is not allowed and employment or voluntary service while on a tourist visa is strictly

        prohibited. It will be a punishable offense.

    Ø Be sure to register at the police and Immigration check point along the trail. It is wise to register your trekking destination and schedule

        at your Embassy or Consulate.

    Ø If you encounter problems along the trails, report them to the nearest police or Immigration post.

    Ø You are requested to change money with authorized dealers and do not forget to take formal receipts.

    Ø You are requested to inform the Immigration Office or Police Station for any changes in your address previously given in the visa

        application form.

    Ø You are advised to be mindful to contact the Immigration Department for visa transfer in case of getting new passport or travel document

         from your Embassy/Consulate.

    Ø Passport and trekking permit should be kept by the trekker while trekking.

    Ø Filming in restricted areas or notified areas without permission is strictly prohibited.

    Ø Respect local traditions, customs, values and sentiments to help them protect local cultures and maintain local pride.

            - Respect privacy when taking photographs

            - Respect holy places

            - Refrain from giving money to children since it will encourage begging

            - Respect for local etiquette earns you respect

            - Let  the Himalayas change you - Do not change them

            - Protect the natural environment

            - Leave the campsite cleaner than you have found it

            - Limit deforestation - make no open fires

            - Burn dry papers and packets in a safe place

            - Keep local water clean and avoid using pollutants

            - Plants should be left to flourish in their natural environment

            - Help your guides and porters to follow conservation measures

    Airport Tax:

    Passengers departing from the Tribhuvan International Airport are required to pay an airport tax and tourism Service Fees of Rs. 1356 if going to SAARC countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) and Rs. 1695.00 to all other international destinations. Domestic airport tax is Rs. 165.

    Nepal Time and Business Hours

    Nepal is five hours 45 minutes ahead of GMT. Government offices are open from 10 am to 5 pm from Sunday through Thursday. On Fridays they remain open until 3 pm. Banks are open from Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 3 pm. On Fridays, banks remain open until 12 pm only. Business offices are open from 10 am to 5 pm Sunday through Friday.

    Embassies and international organizations are open from 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. Most shops open after 10 am and close at about 8 pm and are usually closed on Saturdays.

    Although Nepal works seven days a week, it observes numerous holidays, at the least a couple a month. So please check the holiday calendar. Government offices observe all the holidays and banks observe most of them. Businesses observe the major holidays only.

    New Visa Regulation for 4 African countries

    Nepal Government has decided to permit visa for the ordinary passport bearers of Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe and Swaziland from Embassy of Nepal, Consulate General and Honorary Consulates revoking the previous decision of on arrival visa from these countries. However, official passport bearers will be given on arrival visa. This decision was taken by Ministerial meeting on November 17, 2006 and implemented from December 16, 2006.
