  5. 'itis' can also be an ending in Lithuanian names, if that helps.

    There were persons with this name/spelling in the 1930 census, who gave their place of birth as Lithuania.

    With just a little bit of investigation of your paternal grandfather (or his father.. the name comes down through the father's side), you should be able to work back to your ancestor, who was born prior to 1930. Assuming you are in the US.. it is likely that you can locate them in the census for that year, and perhaps 1920, 1910, etc.  You often can pin down the year that they immigrated, as well.
