I am British, as are all of my family; but my husband is Palestinian. I was wondering what nationality my child will have if he/she is born in Palestine. Alternatively i also wondered what nationality if he/she was born in the UK? I was searching on the web for information, as i live between the two countries, but i found little helpful. Could you tell my any information and/or reccomend any websites i can view? Thank you to anyone with any info. x

  1. In the UK the child is entitled to UK citizenship if born in the UK or any other Commonwealth country. And as there is NO legal country of Palestine, it is in fact Israel, the child would automatically become an ISRAELI citizen.

  2. Whether born inside or outside of the UK, your child will automatically be recognized by the British government as a British citizen by virtue of your citizenship (Jus soli if born in the UK; Jus sanguinis if born outside the UK).

The Palestinian issue is more complicated.  The state of Palestine in still not universally recognized as a legitimate entity.  The majority of Palestinians carry refugee travel documents issued by other countries in the Middle East - primarily Egypt, Jordon, and Lebanon.  If your husband has a valid passport issued by the Palestinian Authority, and if you actually give birth in the state of Palestine, then your child will be eligible for the same status.

  3. I would contact the British embassy there in Palestine.  They can give you the most accurate information.  One thing though, have you thought of the ramifications of your child having Palestinian citizenship?  What if you decide to leave? Can you?  Can you take your child?  Do you have any say or does your husband have the only say?  These are much bigger issues for you and your child.

  4. i think you could get both im in south africa but i have brithish decent on my fathers side and im allowd both passports so i can get cittizenship in either one

  5. Palestinian and British

  6. if you child is born in Palestine , he will have the citizenship of Palestine .

Palestine is still under development for accepting dual nationalites and has not yet agreed on dual citizenship

in 1993 it had an agreement for people from

    West Bank

    Gaza

and Palestine refugees to return under Palestine Authority

therefore , as of today .....

Palestine does NOT allow dual  citizenship ......
