I'm a sophomore in High School, and I'm seriously considering the field of diplomacy. I just need to know if I have the right personality.

  1. Good in communication, government and foreign relations.

  2. I am researching this career field as well! From what I have read an ability to put others at ease would be great.

I, personally, am the type of person who looks at the big picture of a situation and tries to negotiate an acceptable solution for everyone involved. If you have gone to the US Department of State website, you have most likely noted that there are five different career tracks. Each of them would need different skills and abilities as suited to their job.... There would also be jobs and internships available in your local state department.

Good luck! I have heard only 2% of those who take the FSOT actually become an officer. Make sure you pay attention in history classes, and read a major magazine (TIME, US News and World Report) cover to cover at least every couple of weeks.
