Question:

What natural product can be sprayed on floorboards before putting in a new carpet that is anti-bacterial/mould

Washing the floorboards properly would need time to let them dry, so I'm just looking for something that can just be sprayed on. I'm thinking maybe aromatherapy stuff like lemon or tea tree?

  1. Vinegar is the traditional natural cure for molds as its acidity causes their cell walls to burst, but is only effective really when newly applied.

Eucalyptus and tea tree oils are both anti-bacterial, and their effect will be longer lasting.

But did you know that an infusion of black tea is effective in killing dust mites? Good to know if you are going to put down a fitted carpet.

But whatever you put under it, you are going to have to vacuum often to prevent a build up of dust and dirt in the carpet fibres.

  2. Go to Home depot and purchase a tub of anti-bacterial/mold stuff and apply it along the edges of the boards.  I dont suggest putting lemon or tea tree because those stuff can actually cause mold.  If you are concerned about the smell buy a rubber broom and and anti-bacterial spray and brush every two days and apply the anti bacterial spray to smelly areas.
