What needs to be done to help save the Everglades?

For those that know what problems are facing the Everglades, please educate me on what needs to be done.

The everglades is the tail end of a very large ecosystem.  You can not protect the everglades without restricting development of the entire southern part of Florida.  Partial solutions are to eliminate the canals that drain The land around the Everglades and return the water flow to its natural courses.  Once the canals are refilled much of the developed and agricultural land will be unusable for homes and growing tomatoes and can be restored.  Good luck with that!

  3. Better laws to prevent overdevelopment!  The encroachment of the cookie-cutter ugly condo complexes is continuing, and it really hurts.  

    There are too many people clear-cutting and putting in these easy to build ugle residences and golf courses.  In addition to being aesthetically unappealing, these developments chop up the land, put in golf courses that need really heavy fertilizers (contaminating the land), and developers change and limit  the way the water flows into this "river of grass."
