What needs to be done to purchase a handgun from an individual in South Carolina?

If one person wanted to purchase a handgun from another individual in South Carolina, would any steps need to be taken to make it legal? Assuming the gun itself is legal and the property of the person selling it. Also assume that the seller is no longer available for any information and that the gun has already been purchased by a simple monetary exchange.

  1. I would go and register it after the fact.

    Of course you have to be over 18 (signed into law Apr 2008...used to be 21) and meet the requirements of the link below.

    It could be bad news if something happened down the road only to have the weapon confiscated and testing revealed the weapon was used in several murders 2 years before you bought it.

    Friends are friends but better to be safe than sorry.
