I have a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier. The problem is is that on certain occasions my car wont start on up on the first crank. But if I were to put my foot on the gas a little before I start the car it cranks right on up the first time. What is the problem and what can I do to fix it. (I have been told that it is the battery, or fuel pump, or the ignition control module.) Which one is it because I need HELP !

  1. Today's engines should never need to have any throttle input to start. In fact some engines will NOT start if you depress the gas pedal. It sounds like possibly a throttle position sensor problem...Regardless, it's not something you can diagnose yourself. Go for the freebie test at the parts store!

  2. Sounds like the Idle Air Control motor (IAC) isn't letting in enough air to start.  Get it checked out.

  3. there's no way we can tell you exactly what it is without having hear it or test drive it you can have a computer scan done on it for free at auto zone and they can tell you if its sensor causing this to happen,it could also be a fuel pump going bad or even bad filter causing this to happen, having it scanned may give you a trouble code to work with then we could tell you whats causing it to do that, once you get a code for it we can help you better with it,good luck.

  4. Don't do it  your self .Just have a visit to authorised dealer n tell yiour problem .
