I have an amd athlon 64 processor 2800+ and I'm looking to upgrade. I want to upgrade because I think my current processor is bottle-necking my new video card. I don't know what to look for in terms of compatibility so I was hoping you'd be able to tell me.

  1. i would go with intel. might be a little more money more but defently worth it! Intel just came out with a new one like centrino or soemthing. but anything like into core duo is good.

  2. You need to find out what is compatible with your motherboard, if you are upgrading your motherboard might not be able to handle other processors, you need to do some research about compatibility, you might have to buy a motherboard and processor in order to upgrade your computer. I myself have a AMD 64 x2 I like it, it runs rather well when my evil motherboard isn't dead. -_-; Don't buy a ECS motherboard if you upgrade your motherboard.

Anyway, it's always good to do research, I personally like Newegg.com for comparing and checking out users reviews, they usually have good prices on parts too and things to read about the products to decide which is best for you and will provide for your needs.

  3. LGU or A4tech it's awsome!!

  4. Ok, your athlon 64 processor 2800+ is a Socket 754 processor, which is obselete.  If you want to really upgrade, your options are limited.  The absolute best you can do (and verify this with your MB manufacturer) is the Athlon 64 3700 2.4ghz.

Otherwise, you have to go socket 939 brotha.  Depending on how new your new video card is, your only option might be to go 939.

Oh and if you are going to upgrade processor only, you can't go with Intel.  Intel and AMD use different socket architectures.
