right now i have an alvarez RD-8... i had it since i began to play. im looking for something a little more advanced, with a solid top, nothing over 300 dollars. i know epiphone makes good guitars.. im looking at the AJ-200SCE or the dove. does anyone have any advice on what new acoustic i should look at before making a final decision? i dont necessarily need a cutout.. i just want a good sounding acoustic with a solid top.

  1. I agree, just go to the music store and try them all out (several times, if you need to) until you can make an informed decision.

  2. Martin DX1 Dreadnought acoustic. This guitar has great sound and great playability. Martin is top brand, I'm a huge Martin fan. At the store this guitar usually goes for around 500, but you can get em on Ebay for less.

It's a great price and has the Martin quality.

  3. I think you're making a mistake.  You already have one acoustic that sells for $240 and now you want to upgrade to one that costs $60 more?  What for?  You already have a dreadnought - exactly what are you expecting the new guitar to do that the one you have doesn't do?

Keep playing the Alvarez and keep saving until you can afford an American-made guitar like the Taylor 214 or the Martin 000-16GT.  Either one is significantly better than the Epi.

By the way, you received bad advice from one of the other responders.  First, there's absolutely no evidence that adding electronics to an acoustic model affects the tone in any way.  But don't believe me - go to a music store and A/B the Taylor 214 and the 214ce (the first is acoustic only, the second one has electronics).  They sound the same.  Second, a soundhole pickup is a bad idea.  It's a magnetic pickup that makes your acoustic guitar sound like an electric guitar.  There are much better pickups that go under the saddle or under the soundboard that preserve the acoustic sound but make it louder.

  4. The best thing to do would be to go to a music store and play the guitars in your price range.  Base your decision on tone, playability, and lastly looks.  Good luck.

  5. You can't go wrong with a Yamaha.  It's really up to you.  Go to a music store, and test out different guitars from different makes, and choose the one you like.

  6. If you have a friend or family member that has been playing acoustic guitar for a while, by all means bring him or her along with you when you go shopping acoustic guitar.

  7. Here's a word of advice: if you still havent developed your ear, guide your self by this guidelines.

size-i have played masterful martins 3 inches wide, and pieces of trash which have a jumbo body but too "muddy".

    wood-the basic fretboard-rosewood or the fancy one-ebony

the basic body-mahogany or the fancy-coarbon fiber or epaulet

acoustic-electric or simply acoustic:if youare going for the true and pure sound of acoustic, get a acoustic with no electronics. if you are going to run it trought an amplifier, get a microphone and put it in the soundhole DO NOT GET AN ACOUSTIC ELECTRIC, IT KILLS THE TONE OF THE ACOUSTICS.

the guitar i would reccomend you under 300 would be an epiphone hummingbird AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it is just an incredible guitar, sohoudl be worth double the price(personal experience)http://www.guitarcenter.com/Epiphone-Hum...
