What not to do to a perm?

What should i avoid doing to keep my perm in?

Wait a week or so before getting it wet in the shower or pool. Also don't expose your hair to a lot of humidity because it will have the same effect.

Wear a shower cap in the shower and wear a poncho outside when it's raining to keep your hair from getting wet. When it's wet it gets very flat :/

Do not wash your hair for the first two days & don't brush it w/ a brush.  Use a pick comb.

Avoid swimming- ( wear a cap) No Chlorine, and excessive water, don't wash your hair to often, maybe every week and half/ 2 weeks

Avoid too much product- Putting allot of product: spritz, hairsprays...etc can strip the chemicals in your perm.

Avoid sweating too much!!- the salt you release from your sweat will not ONLY make your roots tangled, but if you sweat allot, then wash your hair, and REPEAT these steps frequently, your perm won't last.

(I suggest wearing a scarf, and putting your hair in a ponytail, and brush your hair often with an extra soft brissled brush to stimulate growth, keep your hair shiny, don't put any further product in your hair, ESPECIALLY DYE.)

Things like that! But DO take care of your hair. Don't let it get too dry, or too oily, use a gently shampoo and nourishing conditioner when you wash your hair, and stay away from medicated shampoos/conditioners ( Head N Shoulders, Sulfur 8 Hydrating Shampoo, Suave.....etc)

The first rule of after care when getting a perm is not to wash your hair for at least 24 hours. This is very important because your hair is very fragile and it also needs time to adjust to the chemicals. You can wet it but do not wash it for 24 hours

The only way your perm will come out is if you get it straightened (similar process to a perm but obviously straightened insted) and when it grows out (ie. your roots will be straight as they have not been treated).
