Here is a little info about me:

I'm going to starting college in october and this is my first time buying any type of computer let alone a notebook computer. Don't know much about computers, so be ready for questions. Planning to obtain a associates in science and transferring to university for a degree in nutritional sciences. I like how the hp and gateway computers. So pretty much the sleek and shiny look is the look for me. Yet i'm looking more for performance, so if a notebook computer isn't top grade in the looks department, but it has great performance than i'll definitely consider it. Remember i'm probably going to be carrying it around to libraries and coffee shops. Please keep that in mind! I would also like reasons for your recommendation and personal experience with the manufacturer of the computer.

Deadline:

I need this notebook between late september and mid october.

Budget:

Trying to keep it under $2000. Only if necessary i'll go higher.

Uses:

Typing up papers and any other things required for college classes.

Playing the latest Sim games, expansion packs and similar games.

An integrated web-cam would be nice for when i move away from home and go to university.

Using it to watch movies(dvds) and listening to music(Cd's).

I might want to switch to blu ray discs later on.

Lowest weight possible and @ least a 14" to 15" screen.

Needs to be able to use Wifi. Later on i'll switch to wireless internet connection.

I think thats it. If you can for extra credit have links to information and pics for your recommended choice. It would be great and boost your chances for top answer if you had tips on how to configur the notebook for my uses. Remember i don't know much about computers, so if you need more details let me know and i'll provide.

  1. Wifi is wireless internet.

I have a hp pavilion tx 1000 and i'm a freshman at a university. It has a built in webcam and microphone, and everything's already on it. It only cost me 600 with the mail in rebate [originally 800] and i got it at office depot. It works for me, and I'm sure that it would work for you.

And it has all the things you ask for for way under your limit.

  2. More than 40% of American college students are buying Macs these days.

  3. HP DV3000 series must suit u.

2Gb rams and good processor, 250 GB Hard disk and DVD writer is enough for u in studying stage. They are affordable for ur parents. HP had lots of bundled offer in various countries and side facilities like snapfish. Good service support also and online support also good.

  4. For all your requirements, $2000 is abundant.

But playing latest Sim games requires a good amount of RAM, and pretty good graphic card.

And yes, Wi-fi is wireless internet connection.

I suggest the amount of RAM be at least 2GB, and graphic card with memory at least 256 MB. There is no specific requirement for the CPU.

Browse some notebook catalog. I think you will find what you need.
