Hello,

I am in Germany. The German country code is 0049. To dial the German mobile dial 0049 then drop the first zero from the mobile number you want to call.

If I'm not mistaken, all you have to dial is the international code, 011 + country code 69, then city code, mine used to be 931, then the telephone number. That should allow ya to get through. Hope that works out for ya.

Most everyone seems to be assuming you're calling a German phone from an American phone; if that is indeed the case, then yes--you dial 011 (the US prefix for dialing out of the US), then the country code, which is 49 for germany, then the German area code (if it has a zero in front of it, as most do, drop the zero), then the number.  So, if the German number is 06132-805-4832, from the U.S. you'd dial 011-49-6132-805-4832.

If you're in another country besides the US--such as another European country--you dial 00 for international, then 49, then the German area code without the leading 0, then the number... so, for example, if you're in France or some other country other than Germany and the number you want is the same German number as before, you'd dial 0049-6132-805-4832.

If you're IN Germany, and you're using a German phone to call another German phone, the international 00 and the German country code are unnecessary; but the typical 0 in front of the area code IS necessary... so if you use that same German example phone number, you just dial it as is:  06132-508-4832.

It seems a bit complicated at first, but it's really quite simple; all you have to remember are the different rules for dialing German numbers depending on where you're calling from and whether it's a German number you're calling from.  Remember, too--cell phone coverage all over Europe is pretty good, but FAR more expensive than in the states.  Incoming calls are free, typically, for cell phones (a cell phone is called a "handy" in Germany); cell phone to cell phone calls are cheaper than cell phone to landline calls (and vice versa).  International charges are always high; and incoming calls while roaming, especially in countries foreign to the cell carrier you're using, are always expensive as is dialing out.  Most of it's quite logical, otherwise.

calling to germany from the US is 011 -49 - then the cell number without the 1st number which is always a zero....the same applies for landlines..there is no diffference.

As the others have correctly stated the countrycode for Germany from the US is 01149 and then the telephone number without the leading zero. What hasn't been mentioned yet is the fact that calling a German cell is ridiculously expensive (just to give you an idea: it's about 20 US cents a minute from a German landline to a German cell) so it might well be worth it to a, first contact your phone provider to investigate the costs and / or b, to try and get a landline number out of whoever you are trying to call.

The area code for germany is 01149 and then you drop the zero which is always the first number in front of a cell phone number or area code for a city/town... for example 01149 172 xxxxxxx or for a city 01149 6181 xxxxx... Hope that helped you...
