  1. secular is correct.  But try for a probation officer or even a guidance counselor in a high school. Maybe a camp counselor too.

    You never know!

  2. Law Enforcement Official (Criminologist, Profiler, etc), Non-Profit (anything), Teacher k-12 (social sciences, History), Administrative Official... therapist.

To sum, a lot of things. What's important in today's job market is that you have a degree, not necessarily that you have a degree about whatever field you're entering. When you get your first job, how you do there will affect future job chances more than what you picked most likely.

  3. You need at least a masters or doctorate to get hired for any kind of position.. like a professor

I mean a bachelors in sociology isn't going to be enough.

  4. Nothing specific with just a BA. You have to be flexible and stay positive in light of the bashing people deploy upon the Social Sciences. This is a necessity when searching for that first job; but inevitably, further schooling will be required. As for me, I graduate in Sociology in 2004, taught English in Japan for two years because I really wanted to love overseas, and then after that I moved yo NYC at the beginning of 2007. I wanted to go into business since that's where all my friends were making mad cash. I knew getting a job in that would be unlikely so I temped and Wall St. for a big corporation for a few months until they decided to hire me on full-time. I now work on the trade floor and learned everything on the job! MY situation is rare, but the point is, you can do it. I haven't given up on Social Science though. I do not wish to do business forever as is is stressful and gets repetitive (but nicely pays the bills). I start grad school in the fall for Public Policy. So, there's a lot you can do but keep in mind that getting your foot in the door may require sacrifice on your part. Temping, internship, working for free - initially, something hard will have to be done; but also remember that success beyond those beginning points truly rely on how you are as a person. You need to be flexible, kind, and the ability to portray humor and seriousness together while getting along with everybody - if you do that people will like you and always hire you. Paralegals make good money and most of my friends here in the city who do that have Liberal Arts degrees. I also have friends who went into entertainment. One is a production assistant. She makes like 9 bucks an hour and is an errand girl, but after a year or two she will move up. And this is a major cable company. You have to put the time in. Also, I suggest a metropolitan area as well. There is always work in these areas and the liberal slant makes people more open minded to the social sciences. Also, young people room together to make living cheap, so you can definitely make your dreams happen in a feasible way! Just play it smart. I see Liberal Arts as a blessing. The degrees are flexible! Good luck - I hope this helps a bit because I know I had the sames worries my senior year.
