Question:

What occupations can you pursue with a Criminology Major?

I am looking on University websites and I do not understand the Criminology major. What occupations can you puruse with it? What occupations can you pursue if you use Criminology as a double major (or minor?)? Can anyone please explain the Criminology Major.is pursuing that major worth it?

    Forensic Scientist

    Narcotics Officer

    Ballistics Engineer

    Basically anything on CSI or a show like it involves having a Criminology major.  If you want to work on anything pertaining to investigating criminals, it would be a must.

I work have worked in the field of corrections before.  Now, I'm not pursuing a degree in criminology, but rather psychology.  With that degree I can work in a halfway house as a counselor.  I've also worked in a day reporting program where I basically did drug testing all day and reviewed people's involvement in their probation stipulations i.e. are they going to substance abuse groups?  I also pretty sure that with a criminology degree you could work as a police officer.

    Barrister - presents cases in court under instruction from a solicitor. Barristers can specialise in criminal practice and undertake criminal prosecution or defence in all courts. Postgraduate training and qualifications are essential.

    Police officer - responsible for the protection of life and property; the prevention and detection of crime; the maintenance of law and order; and the preparation of documentation and evidence for the prosecution of offenders.

    Probation officer - involved with the supervision of offenders in the community, the care of offenders in custody and the aftercare of released offenders.

    Prison governor - manages prisons and is responsible for the safe custody of prisoners before and during trials, and after conviction.

    Solicitor, non-commercial - provides a wide range of legal support and advice to clients. Criminal law practitioners deal with every stage of the criminal justice system from police station interviews through to trial. Postgraduate training and qualifications are essential.
