In plants pollination IS fertilization.

Once the pollen grain (male) lands on the stigma, the pollen grain germinates and forms a pollen tube.  The pollen tube elongates through the style of the flower and eventually penetrates the ovule.  Fertilization occurs when one sperm nucleus fuses with the egg cell and the other sperm nucleus fuses with two polar nuclei forming the endosperm.  Flowering plants have a "double fertilization!"
