Now that they have opened themselves totally to the world with their magnificent olympic games, china joins the international community with a clear message of "Here wwe are at last!". What positive values can china offer us, what can they teach us and from our part what could the west learn from them?

  1. THanks and china showed that china is here a good country  and  we  could learn to help people work together imagen how many people that were in the opening and closing ceremony. They all worked together to give the other nations a show to remeber!!

  2. We are looked poorly on by the rest of the world, but for the same reason China is poorly looked on by the west: "We don't know what we are talking about". And NO ONE who hasn't lived in the US knows what they are talking about either.

Yet they want to tell us how to act. Come off it. US is not the only country with a superiority complex. There are many countries like this. One is China, another is the UK, Russia also has a superiority complex. It's not just the US. Anyone who comments on the US without having ever lived here is guilty of the same thing you accuse US citizens of with China. I guess if you don't live in the US you are allowed to be a hypocrite on the world stage...

  3. They show that USA are most hated country in the world.

  4. basically nothing except the view of nature -_-

o and its okay to cheat against rule

  5. the only thing china offers the world is cheap labor and fireworks. i feel bad for the people of China, their government is so corrupt.

  6. The West WILL never learn anything. The West is trying their very best to resemble the evil West of the 1800s which killed many Chinese and taken away their land (Hong Kong and Macau)  and now (Tibet). They are spineless t**t. The West is greater evil and corrupt than China NOW. They are exempt because they can hide under their dictatorship...Democracy.

The more I do my job of anti-sensationalism and anti-"pack journalism" with Western articles, I have failed. The West will believe anything the media tells them. They don't research and they just believe the media is telling the truth.

  7. Haven't they done it yet ?, overring everything at extremely lower price and threatening local manufaturer :))

  8. Culture that is older than the last say 300 years, ingenuity, resilience and a can do attitude

  9. Except for a repressive single party regime, crippling global pollution, and horrific civil rights violations...not much.  It's shocking that you spent time there and yet didn't understand anything about the place.

lol.  I emigrated to the United States in 1982.  Born and raised in Suzhou.  Nice try though.

Thank you for explaining my own country to me.  It's always so nice to get an American tourist's perspective.  You can never get a more accurate picture than that.

  10. No offense, but I don't really understand this question!

Well, they did give us Gunpowder!

SO china is to blame to guy fawks!

  11. we can all learn how to make a more military type country fixed on working together for world power. And learn to be more strick on law violaters. And we can kill America!

  12. The best think China can offer is competition and balance of power. The world is a better place when more countries rise up to become superpowers, not just China. The more powerful countries become, the more influence they have in the United Nations and the less chance there is for a country to wage illegal unilateral wars.

When there is competition, competing countries work harder and are forced to step up and clean up their acts, just like what competition has done for the corporate world. At the end, it is the human race that will be the biggest winner.

  13.   Chinese tend to be less materialistic than Americans and focus more on real matters instead of Britney Spears

I hope that's one value that can spread on

  14. They put on a good show. Some of the middle aged people in the audience looked happy and content, which proved to me that they're not all that unhappy. Their women are sertainly attractive, especially that 16 year old gymnist.

  15. they make good electronics, although my am/fm antenna really sucks on stereo

  16. They have opened themselves totally? Really?

  17. China's 5000 year culture is a lot to learn. The Confucianism ideology is so different from the Western world, things like collectivism, filial piety etc. Looking at how the people come together to make Beijing 2008 a huge success, it's really impressing. The opening ceremony and closing ceremony is marvelous. Also with hard work from everyone in the country,  China for the first time top the gold medal chart.

I think it tells the Western world there's another power nation in the other side of the world and that they have to keep improving in order to compete. Just like how the Eastern world wants to open up to the Western world, the Western countries should also start open up to their Eastern counterparts.

Thanks for your positive comments. I am, as a Chinese (even though I'm not born in China) very proud of the achievement of Beijing Olympics Committee. That have indeed put up one of the greatest events in the world. Kudos to them!

  18. I think you are overreacting a bit.  China put on a great show, and they have a very interesting history and culture, but that does not change the reality of human rights violations, state control, corruption in their business and government and disregard for the environment. Even their athletes are drafted at a young age to train and perform and have no choice in the matter.  They are ridiculed if they do not perform up to expectations and must apologize for not succeeding.  There is definetely something wrong in the area of individual liberty and rights with that scenario.  Yes, it's interesting to see their pagentry and skill, but the system that produces it is very questionable. To think that you just made 1.3 billion new best friends who can show the world the path to enlightenment is a bit naive.

Fair enough comeback -- the Chinese certainly have persevered over the centuries through all kinds of hardship. We tend to tie ourselves up in knots when things get difficult.

  19. A question about china and some how people still manage to talk bad about the USA.

I don't know what they will have to offer to the rest of the world, we are going to have to wait and see. Things are going to be changing thats for sure

  20. World's largest garbage dump
