Question:

What % of world waters is drinkable?

I heard somewhere that it is only 2% and I was shocked.So I want to check it now.Thanks.

  1. There is plenty of water.  The problem is we humans can drink it unless it has been treated.


  2. All water, other than ice and vapor, is liquid and is therefore drinkable.  Most of it, however, is not potable.  More important that total amount of potable water is access to such water.  

    Some of the countries have less than twenty percent of the population that has access to safe drinking water. For example in Africa, with more than 700 million people, only forty-six percent of people have safe drinking water. The more populous Asia Pacific region with over three billion people, eighty percent of whom with access to drinking water, still leaves over 600 million people without access to safe drinking water.

  3. Yep, that's right. All the rest is either salt water or polluted.   Don't forget that a lot of that 2% is in the polar ice caps and in underground reservoirs (aquifers).
