  1. Use what is recommended by the factory.

But if you decide to use synthetic do NOT use car synthetic.  Both Mobil1 and Valvoline website mention that their regular synthetic is TOO slippery for wet clutch.

Mobil1 has special motorcycle full synthetic without friction modifiers that works with wet clutch.

    Good Luck...

  2. Shell Rotella full synthetic, many, many Goldwing riders use it and it works great.

  3. I used  full synthetic auto oil in my Honda Valkyrie for over 163,000 miles.   Mobil 1 15W50 has less moly than Motul Motorycycle oil.  Mobil would rather you buy its $12 motorcycle oil than the cheaper "auto" oil.

I use Rotella 5W40 full synthetic in a VLX and a Honda Magna.

  4. Can't go wrong with Honda oil.

  5. I use valvoline 4 stroke 10-w 40 in both my vtx and my shadow, you can use naything as long as...

    1. it's 10 w 40 and...

    2. on the API circle on the back of the bottle it does not say "energy conserving" if you use energy conserving your clutch WILL slip

try and stay away from synthetics, the cheaper the oil the better

  6. all Japanese bikes call for a 10W40, 4 stroke motorcycle engine oil

a motorcycle oil is specialty blended to work as a crankcase oil, engine gear-transmission oil, and a wet clutch oil

an automotive oil is blended only as a crankcase oil
