  1. A small Toyota pickup 4cyl.

  2. the 99. the fuel injection system is far superior to any carbed model and the 99 is the newest. The EPA continues to make car manufacturers improve gas milage year to year.A two wheel drive, historically, gets better milage than a 4x4.

  3. probably a toyota 2wd with the 4 cylinder and a 5 speed. My 87 toyota 4x4 with a 4 banger and a 5 speed got 24.6 mpg on my last trip but I have done alot of motor work.

  4. The lightest, smallest truck would get the best MPG. Your question doesn't mention what type of truck(mini, mid-size, full-size, heavy-duty). I owned a '92 Nissan Hard Body back in the 90's(bought it new) and it only had A/C, cloth seats, carpeting & sliding rear window as options(no power steering, radio-added later, or auto trans). It was great on gas(28-30mpg on the freeway), no matter how hard I drove it, it got no worse than 23mpg and I put over 150,000 miles on it in 6 1/2 years.
