What on earth is wrong with this lady?

I discovered some disturbing news yesterday. My aunt allows her 11 year old daughter chain smoke in FRONT of her! What the heck? Also, she put her on birth control pills recently. She lets her daughter do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that she wants! What is the world coming to? Why are people becoming such crappy parents?

Did ur aunt have parents that didn't care. My dad didn't care but my mom really did, and that's the only reason that my sisters and I turned out okay.

She should look into temporary placement until her mom gets sense knocked into her.

Wow, that is way way too young. That girl is gonna end up pregnant before she is even a teenager! I think the problem is that some moms try too hard to be a friend and therefore forget to be the "mom" which is what a kid really needs. They have enough friends. What they need is to be told no and parents have to let their kids be children before growing up. That girl is going to miss some of her childhood and it's her moms fault.

my guess is that she has issues being abandoned as a child, and now thinks she can make up for it with her child by letting her do whatever she wants.  She thinks that she is being a loving mother by never saying no to her child and giving her a happier childhood.  I personally think your aunt needs therapy to deal with her issues from childhood.  Her daughter will be totally out of control in a few years.

i am not a parent and not on earth if i ever have a kid would i put my kid on birth control pills and Smoke!!!!!!!!!

This lady is Crazy and this Daughter should really know better but i guess you get a crappy daughter if your a crappy parent,no offence 2 you or anything.

OMG that is so wrong! I have an 11 year old daught and if I ever caught her smoking.....I don't even want to think about it. Maybe she fell and bumped her head and that's why she does it? Ask her if she fell and bumped her head. I think she did. I would never allow any of my daughters to smoke or drink until they were old enough and then I still would not be happy about it. Never mind the birth control pills, which is also crazy and the only way I would ever do that would be if her doc said it needed to be done because of her period.Sometimes it does help to be on bc to regulate and reduce flow etc., but come on at 11? I dont think so!

It is probably a pattern. Her mom let her smoke, so she lets her kid smoke.  It is wrong and just bad parenting.  They will all grow to regret it when someone comes down with Cancer.

OMG, that sounds like a mess. She's 11 and on birth control pills? She's smoking? and her mom allows it? That's so weird. Is your aunt on drugs or something?

Maybe you should speak to someone about this. It's not that you're trying to be a busybody. But maybe you could save her from distroying her life further. She needs help!!

Apparently it's better to be lazy and let your kids do what they want than to discipline them and teach them what's right. Some people really shouldn't be parents.

I know what you mean about crappy parents.  I work in retail and I can't tell you how many parents I see on a daily basis let their kids treat them with disrespect and then go ahead and buy them whatever it is they want.  It makes me sick.  I can only imagine what these kids will be like when they become adults! oy!

Because they are lazy and they find it easier to just give their bratty kids whatever they like. I recently caught my 9 year old son trying his first smoke with friends outside our apartment building. I whooped his little butt and he is no longer allowed to hang out with them kids. I'll be damned if my kid turns out that way.

because her parents weren't great and she doesn't want to do better for her child. I would call child services seriously I know they are family but she is smoking at such a young age that's ridiculous. I hope this helps

Because THEIR parents were crappy and didn't show them right from wrong, I'm guessing.

I don't know, all I do know is that I completely agree with you.  Imagine how it will be like in 20 years.

Edit: I just saw that you put that your aunt's parents ran off on her when she was young.  That's probably why.  I'm sure the woman doesn't mean to harm her daughter!  She just doesn't think much of it!  You know, we're not all born being perfect mothers.  Life doesn't have an instruction guide. =]

that is seriously messed up. i'm getting tired of this stuff too, i guess parents are giving up, idk:(. the aunt needs to be taken to a mentally challenged center and be strapped down and talked to b/c idk a single parent that would let there child do that. that's ridiculous

It's easier to just let them do what they want than to actually have to act like an adult themselves! I say anonymously let the school know, or social services know.......who cares that she's your aunt, your doing your cousin a favor weather she sees it or not........they prob. will not take your cousin they will more than likely make your aunt take parenting classes which it sounds as if she needs!

There's a huge problem with that alone... Smoking and birth control don't go together- it can cause blood clots.

Not every parent is as lenient as this one, but society has changed and that's a big factor.
