What on earths a Ballad?

Question

I keep on hearing about a music type called a ballad. What is it?

Also are these a ballad?

If not what are those songs genre?

They are broken down into two parts, but the thing they share is they tend to vocally stressed and the instruments tend to be muted or nonexistent.  Imagine a band, but just the singer guitarist or the person playing the piano is heard.

The two parts tend to be the power ballad and the normal ballad.  Power ballads tend to be done by normally fast bands such as heavy metal band.  Any slow song by them is a ballad and if the electric guitar is played anywhere in the song it become a power ballad.  Alone by Heart is an example of a power ballad along with Poison's Every Rose has its Thorn.

A normal ballad is any slow song by (an) acoustic instrument(s) which also has no hard drumming or jarring instruments.  These songs can be sung a Capella or the lyrics just hummed with little or no loss to the audience.  Sometimes just a piano or a guitar is used.  I've heard Mad World played this way with just a piano.  Sort of A Prayer by Red Delicious is done with just a guitar.

ballads are songs that usually tell a story of some kind. they are

like poems set to music. i don't know any of those songs but if you listen to Jim Croce most of his songs would be considered ballads like Bad bad Leroy Brown lots of c and w songs are ballads because they tell stories. ballads are my favourite type of song. They are not

necessarily slow as you can tell from Jim Croce.
