What on-land excercises will help me hold my breath longer?

I do synchro, and it's really hard, but some people say, do lots of unders (25m no breathing, breastroke) but I do at least 4 of those (making it all the way) 3 times a week. Can anything make my lung hold more air?

  1. You can't really do anything outside the water. I would advise you to do some 25's under water without breathing. Or if you really want to get serious, you can do a couple 25's sprint freestyle without breathing the whole way. It's going to be hard, but it will work. It worked for me.

  2. try doing some exercises like running or something like that. also, one trick to hold your breath longer is to first breathe really shallow breaths and then start to hyperventilate for a couple seconds (don't do this for too long or you'll pass out). This makes your brain think that you have more oxygen.

  3. breath in a bunch of air then try to suck in more and more. it expands your lungs.

  4. go for long runs this expands your lung capacity
