I lived in Thailand for four years and know that a lot of cheap places to stay are not on internet booking sites.  Even on or near Sukhumwit there are cheap places near Nana, etc.  So many places and I'm not sure how'd you find them all besides just walking around certain areas you may want to stay or maybe using travel books as a starting point.  Especially outside of Bangkok there can be nice little guest houses with a clean room and television for 200-300 baht.  But if you want an actual hotel search the site I gave you.  It also has some of the cheap guest houses too, though.

  8. Really cheap places under 1000 baht aren't always easy to book. There are a few though, like this one:  http://www.sawasdee-hotels.com/

You can also deal directly with the hotel.  There are some hotels that you can book without using a credit card, just an email request. Choose a hotel and see if their website will do for you.

If you need any recommendations mention how much per night you want to spend.  Here are some travel forums that often have posters that recommend hotels and websites.

You could book one night and then take some time to find another place if you are not happy.  Also, at the airport there are hotel booking desks that can set you up with a room.  Sometimes the hotels they offer are in areas of Bangkok not popular with tourists and sometimes they are okay.  You can also call hotels directly from the airport and have them hold a room for you.  More than one way to skin a cat!

    Good luck.
