Question:

What online college is really generous about turning credits into a degree?

I am looking for an accredited online school that would shuffle all of my college credits into a degree with a minimum of difficulty. The school would probably have to have no residency requirement (thus not requiring me to take a bunch of classes with them just because). I have a lot of credits- I just need a place that will recognize and combine them into that all important piece of paper. Thanks!

  1. Your best bet will likely be some sort of General Studies degree-- or a degree in the area from which you have the most credits.

If you simply need a degree-- any degree-- this will likely be an acceptable route (you might want to be sure you have a job lined up that will accept such a degree, however).  If your reasoning is that a bachelor's degree of any description will help you to get a good job, you're likely mistaken.  This approach ONLY works if you have a great deal of very impressive work experience (and maybe you do-- if so, that changes the equation).  However, if you don't, potential employers have only your education to go on.  A pel-mel degree from a school that's not respected (and often derided-- most of the online schools are) with grades that are mostly masked because they were transfer credits won't serve you well.  Many brick and mortar schools will accept a lot of transfer credits (and the grades are still masked).  You might find you could complete a more reputable degree in a short amount of time.

    Hope this helps.

  2. .

Call a few of them (Park University, University of Phoenix) and you are going to get very helpful recruiters (almost pushy!).

Tell them that you are seeking to get a position that requires any degree as long as its a bachelors ---   and  that it doesn't matter what you major in.

Tell them you want the major that will accept the highest number of transfer credits because you are wanting to get this degree as fast as possible.

Don't work with only one school at a time, call 3-4 schools and have each recruiter call you back with that information.   Then you can compare and make your decision!

be careful ,  because they are pushy and tell them you will sign up once you have this info! (they may try to coerce you into getting into an orientation class)

  3. There are 3 Regionally Accredited (the highest level) "credit bank" type schools that are used by a lot of military personnel and others who have accumulated alot of credits from different sources.

    Excelsior College

    Thomas Edison State College

    Charter Oak State College
