  1. Make sure they are accredited.  That's the word you're looking for.

  2. Be sure about standard accreditation. Many of them will tell you they're accredited, but you need to make sure WHO they are accredited with. Some, for example, are only accredited with Distance Learning ...(whatever it's called). If they are able to get federal funding, you've got a very good school. Look over the info they send you & go into detail about the classes. If possible talk to someone who does Med Transcription & talk about the classes they took. Your school should offer basically the same things & in as great a detail as a brick & motar school.

  3. In the southeastern region you are looking for SACS accreditation.

I would also look at how long the school has been in business.

older schools are more liely to be legitimate. Not always, but more likely

What kind of schedule do their athletic teams play (Any school you've heard of?)? Do they have teams?

    Just a few thoughts

    Hope that helps ya.

  4. The top 3 schools for medical transcription online are The Andrews School of Medical Transcription, M-Tec and Career Step. The first two are generally considered the best overall, but Career Step is a very good school and I know several graduates who did get jobs. It also costs less than the others. You just have to decide what's in your best interests both in terms of training and in terms of what you can afford to spend on your education.
