I plan to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management with a Global Business emphasis this coming May, and studied Spanish as my required second language. After graduation I would like to go abroad into a Spanish-speaking environment so as to continue developing my knowledge of the language, having learned from a semester of study abroad that immersion is the only way to really learn. The problem is that I would have to secure employment to be able to support myself while living abroad, and it is quite hard to legally work in most Latin American countries unless you are either working for an MNC or teaching english to people. Obviously, no work permit is needed to work in PR because it is a US commonwealth. Nevertheless, I am wondering how many opportunities would really be available for an American with a quite conversant but not yet totally fluent knowledge of Spanish on the island. How is the overall job market, anyway? Any advice as to how realistic this idea truly is?
