Question:

What options are out there for my tenant?

My tenant's lease is up in August. She has been renting my home for the past year, but hasn't paid for ten months. Both she and her husband work good jobs. They had a bunch of bills that were consolidated, but in doing so their lawyer forgot to consolidate some older tax liabilities they had. The IRS forced a lien on them for the tax liabilities and took all their money and garnished all their wages. The paperwork has been filed and approved by the IRS to return their money, but they have no money while they wait and currently have no where to go after August. The mother is in and out of the hospital all the time. What options does this family of three have once their lease is up with me?

  1. You could allow them to sign another lease, I don't see why though. I don't even see why on earth you allowed them to go 10 months w/o paying rent!... I wish you were my landlord! lol

I don't know, sounds like you've been great to them but it's time for them to go... They are moving willingly right, or are you evicting them?

  2. Here are the options:

They should seek assistance from family or friends for a while.

The should seek assistance from social services (if they have no money at the moment)

  3. Both answers above are good advise. Their best chance is to live with friends and family. But evict them so you can get your rents!
