Question:

What options are there for playing volleyball after high school?

It seems like school is the only option, but I'm getting ready to enter my senior year and playing at my school is just a dead end. (One of the main reasons my school team is such a dead end is the coach. Last year, there were 3 extra players, including myself, at a game. My coach had a girl from the OTHER team suit up for our game. To me, that was coach sending a message that we weren't wanted.) I started playing late so I have less experience and really do not expect to have a college volleyball career. It's just not happening. So what do I do if I want to keep playing? Just join a rec. league or community team? Also, what should I do this next season? I really miss playing and would appreciate any good advice! thanks!

  1. My suggestions would be:

1> Try to stay with your current team, no matter what the coach is thinking. One more day you stay on the team, in the practice, there is one more chance you can learn something.

2> Join an adult league, and/or an entertainment-based team.

3> Going to open-gym volleyball games (you will be bored there, most of the time :)

4> *** This is my "unique" suggestion ***

    Start coaching.

Go back to your middle school and volunteer yourself into coaching. You may also contact USYVL and see whether you can make contributions to a nearby site. You might have the option to come back to your high school after getting into college, and replace your current coach (shhhhh, just kidding). If time and transportation is not a problem, you may coach in community center.

  2. There are many options.

If you are not going to play in college, there are options.  Many colleges have intramural programs.

Your local YMCA might have volleyball programs.

Check the usavolleyball.org, then the WannaPlay link, then the USA regions link, then the RVA link and then the link on the map where you are going to college.  You can use the link below.  You can go to that region's web page and try to find an adult team in your area.  If you were in the Lone Star region, there is a section on the front page where teams look for players and players look for teams.  Other regions have the same sections.

As far as the next season in school, you still have options.  You can work hard from now until then and play for the team.  You can attend camps and work out all summer.  I would try that option.  I would want to prove to that coach that I could do the job.  (But that is me.  I am very stubborn.)

If you do not want to commit all of that effort, you can still find the local YMCA or other community center that might have volleyball programs where you live.

In November, you can still play USAV club volleyball.  (Again, you can use the link below.)  You can find a juniors club in your area and play for them even if you do not want to play in college or in high school.

  3. stop worry about it so much! U need to have faith in urself and go out there just have fun. But ya after high school u can join a league around ur community or u can play club volleyball in college. Is for the college students who still want to play just for fun. Another option for you is to join USA volleyball. Is fun too.

  4. they have volleyball team in college usually.

or you can join some volleyball from intramural programs. good luck.

Or my suggestion, just make your own team. just like me.

i love volleyball too and im also a senior. x)
