  1. The most common form of gold is as electrum, an alloy of gold and silver.  It often is found in quartz veins, as electrum.  SOmetimes the electrum is bound within sulphides.  Placer deposits are often from freed gold from vein deposits.

    Gold as a compound is found in telluride, profitably mined in Colorado.  

    Except for telluride almost all gold is found as electrum, whether in quartz or skarn or as placers.
