  1. WWW.CARDIOMYOPATY.ORG

    HEART

  2. ARVD is an important cause of ventricular arrhythmias in children and young adults. It is seen predominantly in males, and 30-50% of cases have a familial distribution. It is usually inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern, with variable expression.

Many individuals have symptoms associated with ventricular tachycardia, such as palpitations, light-headedness, or syncope. Others may have symptoms and signs related to right ventricular failure, such as lower extremity edema, liver congestion with elevated hepatic enzymes. Unfortunately, sudden death may be the first manifestation of disease.

Hence, ARVD is a genetic disease that affects the heart, in particular the right ventricle's muscular wall.
