  1. For a while I was trying to get a job as a Police Officer.  I worked in Mall Security (sounds hokey, but you get some great experience dealing with people) and Retail Loss Prevention.  About the time I finally decided to get my Engineering degree, I started getting calls from PD's.

Look at private security, retail loss prevention, or any job that might give you experience dealing with people.

    Good luck, stay safe.

  2. My brother is an NYPD highway officer for 15 years and was a paramedic for 5 years prior. it does help to know people in these emergency services. Other than that, it helps so you can know what to expect in crisis and everyday situations. You can do eeeeeeeeeeet!

  3. volunteer at police stations.

  4. A lot of people that come through our offices for pre-employment psychological evaluations for police positions have no experience in law enforcement and simply meet the minimum requirements for the department they are applying to.  Check with your local departments to determine their requirements before deciding to find a job to lead up to a career as a police officer.  Applicants that are determined to not be ready to be police officers, through their evaluation process, are often given the suggestion of starting as a jailer and gaining experience before attempting the process again.

  5. Krispy Kreme taster

Just kidding, anything having to do with the law---get a job with a security company, a lawyer, a probation department.  Also, anything to do with learning to be a paramedic or forensics.  Also, going to school increases your chances---especially college.  Or get a job with the police department as a clerk or something to get to know how things work. Good luck

  6. As long as you have a clean record and an associate degree, you're good to go.  Take your chance and apply.

Look at their websites and see what they require as far as education.

    Good luck
