  1. An-Dong Plaza is the large centre as Tax centre (district 5 - Cholon)

  2. Ben Thanh Market... can't remember the exact location, but try the Lonley Planet guide (book) for the address and directions.  Great shopping at the Ben Thanh Market and Tax Dept Store also.

  3. Zen Plaze on Nguyen Trai Street

    SuperBowl on Truong Son Street.

    An Dong Plaza (Dist 5)

Thuan Kieu Plaza ( Dist 5)

Parkson on LE Thanh Ton street

  4. All the answers are very good, but really Dan, the bazaar is only bizarre the first time you go, after that you get used to the fast pace of Viet capitalism (lol).

One last thought that no-one has mentioned, There is a bus that runs out to the Cambodian border to the duty free shops. If you bring your passport and visa you can even go over to the Cambodian town just over the border for a few hours.

No real great bargains, but an interesting day trip.  I heard there is gambling and strip clubs in the town, but I didn't bring my passport so I can't swear to it.The bus cost about 50,000 d. and picked us up near the big pink and white apartment complex with the mall on the first two floors. (forgot the name but it's not the Windsor Towers)

To add on to the "dudes" answer below, You can shop at Metro (district 8?) with a valid foreign passport.

  5. Ben Thanh Market is arguably the most famous bizarre market in HCMC. However, Ben Xe/Cho Lon is twice the size, and the Chinese would think that market is more popular. There are several bizarre markets in HCMC and throughout Vietnam, because bizarre markets have been a traditional means of commerce in Asia for a very long time.

If you're talking about Western style malls, the Diamond Plaza is one that you already know about. There is also the Saigon Center and I think two others between Ben Thanh and the Botanical Garden and Zoo. There are two Western style malls in the Ben Xe/Cho Lon district not far from the Ben Xe/Cho Lon bizarre market. it has an excellent pizza joint in it.

HCMC is so big that there could be a dozen other Western style malls scattered throughout the city. I doubt the native Viets know all of them, let alone a regular visitor like myself.

    Hope this helps!

  6. SaiGon Square

    39 Le Duan

    Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam

    +8 84 829 8914 (Saigon Tourist Office)

My wife said she wanted to checkout this place in June.

Found another place my wife wants to check out too:

30,000 sq.m Saigon Factory Outlet Mall, owned by Canada’s Dai P**c Co., has been set up at a cost of US$30 million between National 1K and Hanoi Highway in Di An district, a 30-minute drive away from HCMC

    Cheers

  7. There are malls everywhere, I live here and have for 2 years.  There are MaxiMarks almost everywhere, Tan Binh District, D10.  Superbowl near the airport, and a new one called Big C near aswell. Eden mall is across from Tax. There are also a few just outside the city.  There is one, the name is escaping me where you need a membership, its called.....Metro Centre
