  1. You will have to at least do a light sanding to ensure the paint will adhere to the wood.  Then, use one coat of white primer and top with a high gloss white latex paint.  Use a foam brush on anything but flat surfaces.

  2. You can use gloss for a hard wearing finish or satin and then a layer of matte varnish...BUT if your furniture is not wood..but laminate you will need special paint. Give it a light sand first and use a brush not a roller.

  3. If you don't sand or strip (which is what you should do) put one or two coats of primer on first. Most wood furniture has several layers of sealant and most paint won't adhere.

Stick to an enamel, in semi-gloss. Benjamin Moore is the best of all paints.

If you don't sand or prime it won't cover properly and look like it. Short cuts unfortunately show with furniture.
