Question:

What paint do I use to paint kitchen cabinets black, but not shiny black?

I want to paint my kitchen cabinets black (they are ugly 70s dark stain), but I do not want shiny black. I have looked at milk paint, but I am concerned that it will not work well because of the existing finish. I know most painters recommend oil-based enamel because it cleans easily, but that is not the finish I am looking for. Any suggestions for painting the cabinets and obtaining a matte finish that will still hold up to the wear and tear of a kitchen?

Thanks

  1. use a flat interior paint if you want to be matte finish, but it will not be as easy to clean as a semi-gloss or eggshell finish. Flat is easier to touch-up though, if the doors start to look too dirty later.
