What paperwork do I need to bring my dog back across th Mexico/Texas border?

I own an adult male chihuahua. I bought him in the United States, and I have documentation proving I bought him there and he's AKC registered. He's completely healthy and up to date on all his shots.

I've been living in Mexico for a year teaching English and I'm returning to Texas in July. When I crossed into Mexico nobody at the border even checked his records. Is it going to be just as easy to cross back into the U.S. with him?

I'm having trouble finding exactly what I need to get him back safely. If anybody has any experience with this or has a link with the info I need I would really appreciate it!

  1. It will not be as easy. You will need proof of his vaccinations, specifically rabies and some sort of picture proof. Our vet took a picture of the dog and printed it with the rabies vaccine information. He wears a tag that matches.

Just proof that your dog had his rabies vaccine from a licensed vet.

  2. what part of mexico are you from?

  3. See site below...they may check, and they may not...it is random.
