  1. If the parents are together, usually they have to agree on which school is best for their child. Otherwise, it's usually the parent who has custody of the child.

  2. in my town you don't get to choose its what ever school you live by is the one u go to

  3. Normally, the child attends the school in which s/he is zoned for based on where s/he lives.

Unless custody orders state that parents are to make decisions 50/50, then any deviations from the above are decisions for the custodial parent to make.

  4. If both parents are living together then either can decide, if the parents aren't together then the one with physical custody decides.  If parents have joint custody then the school is usually required to be agreed upon by both parents but must be within driving distance of both parents.  In my case I have full legal custody of the boys so it was my decision since they live with me.

  5. Actually neither parent chooses, it depends upon where the child lives, which school district the child lives in.  If the parents together want the child to attend a school outside their district they have a lot of paperwork they have to fill out to do so and many times have to provide their own transportation for the child.

If it is a 50/50 custody case then the child can be enrolled in two schools for the school year.  Two of my cousin's parents were divorced and they shared 50/50 custody, my cousins attended one school for half the year and then the other school for the other half.  In 50/50 custody cases the court decides based upon the custody schedule.

  6. For parents with joint custody, it can be a huge battle, especially if they do not live close to eachother.  In the case of friends of mine, it took a judge to decide it.
