What part is this and what does it do?

i have a part for my 79 ford f-150 with a 351M motor and i need to know what it is it looks like a sensor or filter of some sort it is a cylinder looking object with a flat wire hook up on one side and what almost looks like a cable or coaxial cable hook up on the other end it came from the top of the motor towards the back by the firewall right behind the carburator

  3. Can't answer without seeing the actual device and exactly where on the engine it was mounted.  Shoot a picture, ask again.

  4. Nice description-appears to be a 300-Ohm to 75-Ohm matching transformer for Television input, based on your info- why it would be in the motor compartment is a guess. I thought at first it was a capacitor to block spark-plug noise from your radio etc.

  6. There is nothing original to that truck that matches that description.

    I'm with stephen d, it sounds like a transformer for a television. You didn't say what size it is, or if it is "hooked up" or just loose on the motor.

    On a 30 year old truck, you might find most anything someone has plugged a vacuum line with, or used as a wedge or something. If it works without it, leave it alone. If not, post a picture or show a mechanic the part.
