ive been wondering this for a long time. my dad is from st lucia and my mom is from dominica, not republic. i know that my dads great gandmother came from the congo, and his great grandfather came from india, both from his moms side. my mom i dont know about, but she has quite a bit of native blood, which makes her very light, and some people even ask if she is black.

but anyways, both countries speak broken french, and both were colonized by england and france multiple times, so im thinking it couldve been one of them. and i know my ancestors came from west africa, but what country, or civilization? if its england or france who took my ancestors, then maybe central africa, or the nigeria ghana ivory coast region where they speak english and french.

  1. how do you know they were stolen. alot of countries trade or sell natives.

  2. First off you will never know where your ancestors came from. It is impossible for anyone to tell you as you have no idea when they

arrived in those countries. Secondly how do you know they were

'stolen' by anyone?  It is possible that they travelled to the new world

on their own. As far as India goes there was very little if any slave

trading done from there to the new world simply because it was too far to bring anyone when Africa was much closer. So is is very unlikely

your great great grandfather was a slave or kidnapped. Even with DNA testing that is being done with African Americans they can give some markers but there is usually 10 or 15 different areas they could have come from. You are stuck like this rest of us in this country knowing your ancestors came from somewhere else.

  3. You may have a tough task ahead of you but I hope you'll succeed. Ragarding the "stole them" part, I really believe that they were first captured by another people/village and then sold to the white traders. So, who "stole" them really?

  4. Well, the majority of african slaves came from west africa, such as Ghana, Benin, NIgeria, Ivory Coast, cameroo, siera leone, etc. So chances are thats where they came from. And slaves by all imperial countries, france, england, portugal, spain, etc. are who brought them to the west from Brazil and the Caribbean all the way up to the U.S.

  5. How come every African American assumes that his family came by slave ship to America? Many of our black citizens came here from many countries through Ellis Island. Also many blacks lived here through slavery days and lived as free men and women. I for one am tired of the rhetoric about what I owe some one for nothing I did.It is bull.We owe each other respect and honesty but I never owned slaves nor did my family they came over in the late 1880's.Please milk a different nipple this ones sore!

  6. They werent stolen, they were sold. And they were sold by your black ancestors to whatever european country they were sold to.
