What part of Amsterdam is the best place to stay?

My husband and I would like to visit the "coffee shops" and still be close to our hotel. We would like to stay in a nice place.

All hotels in Amsterdam are within walking distance of a coffee shop, (as those are spread out over the town) but the area which you think about is central in Amsterdam.

Amsterdam is not a big city, so all central Amsterdam locations will be within walking distance.

If you like a nice hotel, I would not go for on actually in the red light district, those are often sleazy.

If you have a look at a map of Amsterdam you will notice a ring of canals, all hotels on and within that ring are central in Amsterdam.

For the rest, read reviews.

Mostly the reviews will tell you whether the location of the hotels are acceptable or below measure for the price the hotel charges.

I would recommend the Hotel Acro Amsterdam. It is a lovely hotel that is quite central. Only about a 5 or 10 minute walk for the center which the coffee shops and then clubs and pubs are situated aswell as the other shopping centers. It is situated in one of the most beautiful and upper class residential areas of Amsterdam. Also close to the Rite musieum and the Lido casino. The prices are quite reasonable. Be sure when you go to take a cruise along the canals. Amsterdam is very beautiful as well as liberal so lets not forget the beauty. And the fun is also off the wall!! Visit the red light district in your free time - you can walk from the hotel but I would catch a tram during the day! It is a lovely city. The website is www.acrohotel.nl
