What part of Australia will best work for farming?

Question

Farming with cattle, horses, sheep and other. My brother wants to start farming when we immigrate but has no idea where will work the best. I know a few years back a few horses died of invection, transmitted by fruit bats in the Adelaide area

victoria, south or east gipland area, its good farmin land,

i wouldn't recommend farmin with horses, unless ur on the flats, but everyone knows that its up in the hill where the best soil is, thats where u want to cultivate the land into crop feilds and then there's also lotsa grass thats still green for the animals. also, i'd recomend getting a quad bike for farming instead of a horse, that way u can put bails or hay and fodder on the back when the animals need it in the winter.

the whole country is in drought, but the best places to be r vic or south aus. mark my words. =]

NOT QLD!!! I live in a rural area and we are affected by drought worse than anywhere else. Victoria would be alot better.

in alot of places the cattle are dying from a lack of food, due to the drought and farmers are walking off the land. Wait until we get some decent rain to get the grass growing again.

Between Bremer Bay and Israelite Bay on the very south coast of WA would be ideal for what you want to farm, but land  for sale might be scarce. Most cockeys (farmers) have been on the same farm for generations.

You could try anywhere south of the "wheatbelt" which is better suited to Dairy, Merino, and Equestrian pursuits.

Perenjori, Corrigin, down towards Mount Barker and anywhere in between has favourable rains.

Most of the very South West is orchards, but there are still some good paddocks left. Try around Harvey if you want to be close to civilisation.

When the drought is in the West - it's not usually in the East and vice versa. It's called El Nino and El Nina depending on which side of Australia is affected at the time.

WA is having very good rains so far this year. Better than the last good run in the 1960's. Hopefully it will stay that way till September.

Country Victoria, along the Murray river is all farming land. A lot of the area around Echuca is dairy farming, and there are quite a few horse farms (for lack of the right word :S), and sheep are common in the area as well.
