What part of Barcelona should I stay at?

A friend and I will be flying into Barcelona for a few days and are unfamiliar with the city. What areas of the city should we look at while we stay there? We're trying not to spend more than $30 each per night.

There are inexpensive hotels along the coast you could try and it doesn't take that long to get into Barcelona. You may find it difficult to get a room in the city at this time of the year: it gets packed and all the hotels fill up. I attach a link which may help. We went in September one year and had to spend one night sleeping at the airport, hope that doesn't happen to you. If you can book before you get there it will obviously be best.
