I'm going to visit Italy for around 23 nights and I'll be in Rome for 5 nights (honeymoon). What section of Rome would be best to stay in (and why)? Or even where NOT to stay would be amazing! Please be detailed about how it is getting around if possible... and what the section is like.. I'm trying to get this all booked tonight. Thank you!

  1. Try the Crowne Plaza Via Auralia Antic, Saint Pietro. Its a lovely large hotel with restraunts and swimming pool. They have a complimentary coach service which takes you to the centre of Rome in the morning and collects you either in the afternoon and at night.

A good site for all Italian hotels is Venere.com. They have a whole range of accomodation and do not expect payment until you check out. reservation is free.

    Have a lovely honeymoon.

    Roma, molta bella e interessente.

    Buon fortuna.

  2. It all depends on your budget, but if you can afford it, stay at The St. Regis Grand.  It is absolutely beautiful!  It used to be just called "The Grand," but then it became a St. Regis hotel and underwent a multi-million-dollar renovation.  I stayed there last year and it was amazing. The lobby is gorgeous - the rooms are huge - there are butlers for an extra charge - the service is second-to-none and the location is wonderful.

If you can't afford that hotel, then I would highly recommend the Westin on the Via Veneto. That location is great as well (next to the American Embassy) and is within walking distance of the Spanish Steps and the Via Condotti.  It is also beautiful and if you stay there, ask them for a corner room in the front, if it's available (tell them it's your honeymoon!).

Getting around Rome is very easy - most places are easily accessibly by walking - and that is recommended since there are so many smaller streets that are wonderful that you would miss if you took a taxi.  But going to the Vatican and St. Peters - you'll need a taxi for that.  Nothing transportation-wise in Rome is expensive, so that's not an issue. There are many books you can buy with walking tours of Rome - but in my experience, just walking with a street map is good enough and preferrable as you can explore on your own and at your own pace.

Good luck - if you need more help, just email me at av8rgal@aol.com and I'd be glad to help!

    And Congratulations!

  3. Whatever you do, do NOT stay anywhere near the Termini train station. There are shady folks of all types. Let's put it this way you would not feel safe. I was in a group of ten or eleven people and two men marched into the group and tried to haul me away. That's just the beginning... plus there are beggars and gypsies all over the place and it reeks.
