Question:

What part of the CORN is used for ETHANOL? I suspect is the grain itself, but?

is the rest of the plant used as well? And I'm specifically referring to this "trend" (to call it something), since on the one hand you see people really interested in ethanol, but getting same amount of people or more just trashing it and the whole concept as well.

In other words those plants that are used, (again the kernel probably) for ethanol production, are they just discarded or used, such as for animal feed?

  1. The kernal is what is used for ethanol production. I hope that the rest of the plant is used for animal feed. It would be much more efficient to  use a nonfood source such as switch grass and let the corn be used for people and animal food.

Ethanol in the gasoline is not the best idea. It cleans the fuel tank and leaves all the gunk in the filters. It eats through rubber gaskets. It can eat through fiberglass tanks. It collects water and causes water problems with engines. It takes much more energy to raise and process the corn than it gives back. It causes a drop in miles per gallon.
